Bigger IS Better

Ok, suppose you have a traveler series vise or any pedestal that is less than 6” x 6”. Perhaps you got it as a lightweight convenience or maybe it was a gift/prize. For whatever the reason, you have a smaller pedestal. With the Stick2itTM Pedestal Pad you can instantly convert your existing smaller pedestal into a 6.1" x 6.0" pedestal. As with the MagMat, the Pedestal Pad is double sided magnetic which …

If you already have a pedestal that is 6” x 6”, the Stick2itTM Pedestal Pad will fit right over your existing pedestal and can be enjoyed the same as above. Also, the Stick2itTM Pedestal Pad is 6.1” x 6.0” which adds a small “lip” (0.1 inch) at the end making it easy to separate the Pedestal Pad from the existing 6” x 6” pedestal.

The Stick2itTM MagMat can be spread out on table and make a larger tying area for yourself or group of friends tying.

Safety

Taking Ownership

In life, there are so many things we all need to take ownership of.  When we are fly fishing, one way or another, we learn to take ownership of our backcast. If not, we can get into bushes, trees, power lines, or another angler. Whatever it is, not paying attention to detail when backcasting can lead to a "less than enjoyable" day.

The same is true for fly tying. We all need to take ownership of our hooks and tied flies. Whether tying one or two flies or a few dozen, we need to take ownership, and account for, each and every hook.

Angry woman

What do you think She Wants To Talk About On Way To The Hospital?

Well, she certainly doesn’t look very happy. If this were a game of charades, it would read “Because I have a blankety, blank, blank hook in my blanking foot”. Perhaps she is yelling “CHEESE n’ CRACKERS!!!”, “DARN!!!!”, “JEEPERS!!!” or “HOLY DARK CANYONS BATMAN!!!”.

Most of us would advise that the very last “pearls of wisdom” that come out of your mouth are

  • “There, there …”
  • “Does it still hurt?”
  • “Maybe you would like a snickers?”

There are very few words that can save the future of fly tying in the living room. At best, it will be banished to the garage (boogie land).”

Easy Clean Up

The magnetic surface of both the MagMat and Pedestal Pad effectively holds the bare hooks and tied flies in place, preventing them from scattering. When it’s time to tidy up, turn the MagMat or Pedestal Pad upside down, allowing the tying waste to be quickly emptied into the garbage. Meanwhile, the bare hooks and tied flies remain securely on the magnetic surface.

Protection

For as long as we can all remember, we have always been told to always use protection. It started with things like always wearing safety goggles, having on a clean pair of shorts, wearing galoshes, or having an umbrella with you. As fly fishers, we then expanded that to keeping our fly reels in pouches and our fly rods in tubes.  But as fly tiers we didn’t add much.

Doesn’t Your Fly Tying Vise Deserve Protection Also?

After a crazy night of fur, feathers, epoxy and paint, you wake up and your favorite tool now has strange “blemishes” on it that weren't there yesterday. If only you had listened to mom and used protection! Using a Pedestal Pad as protection, the clean-ups are easier since the surface can be cleaned with glass cleaner or even rubbing alcohol without damaging the purchased print.  Suppose your vise has already been “baptized” with paint or epoxy. The fix is easy and instant as seen below.

"Hard to imagine Jill's thoughts later on in life when she inherits her grandpa's vise and she continues his fly fishing and fly tying legacy.  Even harder to imagine what Pedestal Pads and Mag Mats filled with memories, secret spots and wisdom that Jill will pass along to her kids."
